One person's junk is another person's treasure, according to a recent discussion about barn wood. It started with a guy who had a friend who was getting rid of his barn. He wanted to find out if the wood on the outside of the barn was worth anything.

The general consensus was that barn wood is in increasing demand and that made it worth something. Some had used it in very expensive homes as paneling and others used it to build bird houses and such. One respondent had barn wood as paneling in his kitchen (from a previous owner) and couldn't think of a more useless material in a place where heat and grease and dirt were prevalent. A couple of woodworkers said they paid about 30-35 cents per board foot for barn wood in good condition.
